A new Chinese study shows that high homework burden can lead to an increased risk of neurobehavioral problems in adolescents, particularly among girls. Homework may reduce sleep duration which mediates emotional and behavioral problems, including withdrawal, social and attention, and anxiety/depression.
This study highlights the importance of appropriate homework load/difficulty and sleep restoration approaches to prevent adolescent neurobehavioral problems.
