The recent guidelines from the Endocrine Society advising against routine vitamin D level checks and supplementation in the general population raise serious concerns. Vitamin D plays a vital role in our bone health, immune function, and much more. Yet, millions globally suffer from vitamin D deficiency, potentially leading to long-term health issues like osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, and autoimmune disorders.
Given the widespread prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency, not endorsing regular testing and preventive supplementation might leave many undiagnosed and untreated, exacerbating public health challenges.
